When should I reserve my session?
Before your baby is born! It is so important to plan ahead. Capturing your newborn within the first two weeks of life while they are still sleepy and curled up, can make all the difference in your newborn portraits. Please call to schedule your newborn appointment before your baby is born. Since we never really know when your little one will arrive I will put you on my calendar to hold a spot for you. When your baby is born I will move your appointment accordingly.
If your baby came early or if your baby is already born, don’t panic! I always do my best to squeeze newborns into my schedule.
Where will my session take place?
All sessions take place in my beautiful home studio located in Mount Sinai Harbor. The studio is kept warm and sanitized throughout your session. White noise or womb sounds are used to create a comfortable environment for your baby.
How old should my baby be?
The best age for newborn portraits is within the first 10 days. I like to aim for days 5,6 or 7, as babies tend to sleep deeply during this time. They also retain their womblike flexibility during this timeframe, which makes posing very natural and comfortable for your baby.
Do you provide those adorable little hats/accessories and props for the session?
Absolutely! All the props, knit hats, hair accessories and wraps you see in my portraits are part of my ever growing collection. If there is a specific prop you have seen in my portraits that you would like for your session, please let me know at least two weeks prior to your session. Please remember, that even though you may have picked your favorite prop, all babies have different comfort levels and they will give us the final call on whether they want to be photographed in that prop!
What can I do to prepare for my session?
After your estimated due date is officially reserved, I will send you an email of my best tips to help you prepare for the session.
How long will the session last?
A typical newborn session will last between 2-4 hours. I allow plenty of time for on demand feeding throughout the session, as well as diaper changes and snuggle breaks. Feel free to bring along your favorite (quiet) snacks, drinks, or even a pillow and catch some zzzz’s in the waiting room!
What about my other children? Can they attend the session?
Siblings are welcome in the studio for the first portion of the session for a sibling portrait. Please arrange to have a friend or family member pick up baby’s siblings from the studio. If that is not possible, there are many local shops and eateries dad can visit with your other children while we complete the session. We’ll need calm, quiet and safe conditions throughout the remaining 2-4 hours of the session.
